Difference and Belonging: Indigenous and Autochthonous National Minorities in Europe’s Transforming Regions

The Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography (IfL), in partnership with the Institute of Geography
at the University of Leipzig, the Sorbian Institute in Bautzen, and the Brandenburg University of
Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, invites for the international conference “Difference and
Belonging: Indigenous and Autochthonous National Minorities in Europe’s Transforming Re-
gions” (MINREG2025).

From November 12 to 14, 2025, the international conference “Difference and Belonging: Indigenous and Autochthonous National Minorities in the Transforming Regions of Europe” (MINREG2025) will take place in Leipzig. The event, organized in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography (IfL), the Institute of Geography at Leipzig University and the Sorbian Institute in Bautzen, will focus on the diverse theoretical and empirical perspectives on indigenous and autochthonous national minorities in the middle of European transformation processes. Among other things, cultural and political conflicts and the roles of planning and regional development will be explored.

The call for papers for the conference runs until June 30, 2025. Researchers from the fields of geography, planning science, transformation research and other related research areas that focus on minorities can now submit relevant contributions. Registrations for the conference can be made from August 1, 2025. The conference will be held in English.
